Ingredients

  • 500 grams ground beef
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

Cook the Meat Sauce

  • Heat olive oil in a pan. Add chopped onion and garlic. Cook until soft and fragrant. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Stir well and break meat into small pieces.

Add Tomato Base

  • Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix well and let it simmer for 15 minutes. The sauce should become thick and rich in flavor.
  • If you enjoy bold, from-scratch tomato-based sauces, this recipe for tender homemade meatballs simmered in a rich tomato sauce uses a very similar base and is well worth bookmarking.

Prepare the Cheese Mixture

  • In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, and half of parmesan cheese. Stir until smooth. This creamy layer will make the lasagna soft and rich.

Cook the Pasta

  • Boil lasagna noodles in salted water. Cook until soft but not too mushy. Drain and lay them flat on a tray to prevent sticking. For another satisfying way to enjoy pasta night, this wholesome whole wheat pasta dish is a lighter option that still delivers on flavor and comfort.

Start Layering

  • In a baking dish, spread a small amount of meat sauce. Add a layer of noodles. Then add cheese mixture and more meat sauce. Repeat layers until ingredients are used.

Add Final Cheese Layer

  • Top the last layer with mozzarella and remaining parmesan cheese. This will create a golden, cheesy crust when baked.

Bake the Lasagna

  • Cover dish with foil and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.

Rest and Serve

  • Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before cutting. This helps layers set properly. Slice and serve warm for best taste.

Notes

  • Use ground turkey for a lighter version
  • Add spinach for extra nutrition
  • Use no-boil noodles for faster cooking
  • Add mushrooms for deeper flavor
  • Let sauce simmer longer for richer taste
  • Use fresh basil for aroma
