Ingredients

  • 500 grams ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 small onion sliced
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

Prepare the Meat Mixture

  • Take a large bowl and add ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently with your hands until everything is combined well.

Shape the Patties

  • Divide the mixture into equal portions. Shape them into oval patties. Press gently so they hold together but do not overpack them. Set aside on a plate.

Cook the Patties

  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Place patties carefully in the pan. Cook each side for about 4–5 minutes until browned. Remove and keep aside.
  • If you enjoy skillet-based ground beef dinners, these juicy homemade meatballs in a savory tomato sauce are another weeknight classic worth trying.

Prepare the Gravy Base

  • In the same pan, add butter and sliced onions. Cook until soft and slightly golden. This adds sweetness and depth to the gravy flavor.

Make the Gravy

  • Add flour to the pan and stir well. Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring. Add soy sauce and black pepper. Let it simmer until slightly thick. If you love a good scratch-made gravy, you will also enjoy this rich, creamy sausage gravy that works beautifully over biscuits or toast.

Combine Patties and Gravy

  • Place cooked patties back into the pan. Spoon gravy over them. Cover and let cook for 10–15 minutes. This helps the flavors mix together.

Final Cooking Touch

  • Check seasoning and adjust salt if needed. The gravy should be smooth and rich. The patties should be soft and fully cooked inside.

Serve Hot

  • Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables. Pour extra gravy on top for best taste.

Notes

  • Add mushrooms for richer gravy
  • Use turkey instead of beef for lighter version
  • Do not overmix meat for soft texture
  • Add garlic powder for extra flavor
  • Use fresh herbs like parsley for freshness
  • Make patties ahead and refrigerate
