Ingredients
  

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder optional
  • 1 pinch paprika optional

Instructions
 

Melt the Butter

  • Place a saucepan on medium heat. Add butter and let it melt fully. Make sure it does not burn. Stir gently so it melts evenly and becomes smooth.

Add the Flour

  • Add flour into the melted butter. Whisk quickly to form a smooth paste. Cook for one minute to remove raw flour taste. This creates a thick base for your cheese sauce.

Add the Milk

  • Slowly pour in the milk while whisking. Keep stirring to avoid lumps. Cook until the mixture starts to thicken. This step makes the sauce creamy and smooth.

Add the Cheese

  • Lower the heat. Add shredded cheese slowly while stirring. Let it melt fully into the sauce. Keep mixing until it becomes rich, creamy and smooth.

Season and Finish

  • Add salt, pepper and optional spices. Stir well and taste the sauce. Adjust seasoning if needed. Turn off heat when the sauce is silky and ready to serve.
