Ingredients

  • 18 g freshly roasted espresso beans
  • 36 g brewed espresso
  • 60 ml whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar optional
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract optional
  • Pinch of cinnamon optional

Instructions

Grind the Coffee

  • Grind fresh espresso beans until they have a fine, even texture. Measure about 18 grams of coffee. Freshly ground beans give your drink a stronger aroma and richer flavor.

Prepare the Espresso

  • Place the ground coffee into your portafilter. Tamp it evenly and firmly. Brew until you have about 36 grams of espresso. The shot should look rich with a smooth crema.

Warm the Milk

  • Pour 60ml milk into a small pitcher. Steam it until warm and silky. Aim for about 55°C to 65°C. Avoid overheating the milk, as high temperatures can create a flat taste.

Create Smooth Milk Texture

  • Keep the steam wand near the milk surface for a few seconds. Then lower it slightly. Create a fine, glossy texture without making large bubbles. The milk should look smooth and creamy.

Combine the Espresso and Milk

  • Pour the fresh espresso into a warm cup. Slowly add the steamed milk. Keep the pour gentle and controlled. The finished drink should have a balanced coffee flavor and a silky texture.

Add Optional Sweetness

  • Taste the drink before adding sugar. Good espresso can taste naturally sweet and balanced. If desired, stir in brown sugar or vanilla. Add only a small amount to keep the coffee flavor noticeable.

Finish and Serve

  • Add a tiny pinch of cinnamon if you enjoy warm spice. Serve the cappuccino cortado immediately. Fresh espresso tastes best when enjoyed while the milk remains warm and silky.

Notes

  • Always use freshly roasted coffee beans.
  • Grind the beans just before brewing.
  • Use whole milk for the creamiest texture.
  • Do not boil or overheat the milk.
  • Preheat your cup before serving.
  • Keep the espresso and milk amounts balanced.
  • Try oat milk for a dairy-free version.
  • Use strong dark-roast beans for deeper flavor.
  • Add cinnamon for a warm finish.
  • Skip sugar if you prefer a traditional coffee taste.
  • Use slightly less milk for a stronger cortado.
