Ingredients

  • 9 lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

Boil the Lasagna Noodles

  • Cook lasagna noodles in salted water until soft. Drain carefully and place them flat to prevent sticking together during preparation.

Cook the Beef Filling

  • Heat olive oil in a frying pan. Add onions and garlic. Cook until soft and fragrant. Add ground beef and cook until nicely browned.

Add the Sauce

  • Pour marinara sauce into the beef mixture. Add salt, pepper and Italian seasoning. Stir well and let the sauce simmer gently for 10 minutes.

Prepare the Ricotta Mixture

  • In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and parmesan cheese. Mix until smooth and creamy. This creates the rich lasagna filling.

Prepare the Baking Dish

  • Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the baking dish. This prevents noodles from sticking while baking.

Add the First Layer

  • Place lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread ricotta mixture evenly. Add meat sauce and mozzarella cheese on top.

Repeat the Layers

  • Continue layering noodles, ricotta mixture, sauce and cheese until all ingredients are used. Finish with mozzarella cheese on the top layer.

Cover and Bake

  • Cover the baking dish with foil. Bake at 180°C for 35 minutes until hot and bubbly throughout the dish.

Remove Foil and Finish Baking

  • Remove the foil carefully. Bake another 10 minutes until the cheese becomes golden and slightly crispy on top.

Rest Before Serving

  • Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before slicing. This helps the layers stay firm and neat when served.

Notes

  • Use cottage cheese instead of ricotta if needed
  • Add spinach for extra nutrition
  • Use ground chicken instead of beef
  • Add mushrooms for richer flavor
  • Do not overcook the noodles
  • Let lasagna rest before slicing
  • Use fresh basil for extra freshness
