Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 5 cups cold water
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup cold sparkling water
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon zest
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • Lemon slices for garnish
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Fresh Lemons

  • Wash the lemons well under cool running water. Pat them dry with a clean towel. Zest one lemon lightly, avoiding the bitter white layer underneath.

Extract the Lemon Juice

  • Cut the lemons in half and squeeze them using a citrus juicer. Remove seeds carefully. Strain the juice if you prefer a very smooth drink.

Make the Simple Syrup

  • Add sugar and one cup of water to a small saucepan. Warm the mixture over low heat. Stir gently until the sugar completely dissolves.

Cool the Syrup

  • Remove the saucepan from the heat. Let the syrup cool completely before mixing it with lemon juice. A cool syrup keeps the drink fresh and properly chilled.

Mix the Lemon Base

  • Pour fresh lemon juice into a large jug. Add the cooled syrup and lemon zest. Stir everything together until the flavors are evenly combined.

Add Cold Water

  • Pour the remaining cold water into the jug. Stir slowly with a long spoon. Taste the mixture and adjust the sweetness if needed.

Add Sparkling Water

  • Add the cold sparkling water just before serving. Stir gently to protect the bubbles. This gives the drink a light and refreshing finish.

Chill the Drink

  • Place the jug inside the refrigerator for at least one hour. Chilling allows the lemon flavor to become smoother and more balanced.

Prepare the Glasses

  • Fill each serving glass with ice cubes. Add a thin lemon slice and a few fresh mint leaves. This makes the drink look fresh and inviting.

Serve the Lemon Drink

  • Pour the chilled lemon drink carefully into each glass. Serve immediately while it is cold and bubbly. Add another lemon slice for a beautiful finishing touch.

Notes

  • Use fresh lemons for the brightest and cleanest flavor.
  • Always taste the drink before serving.
  • Add more sugar if your lemons taste very sour.
  • Use less sugar for a lighter drink.
  • Chill the glasses before serving for extra freshness.
  • Add sparkling water just before serving.
  • Do not add too much lemon zest because it can taste bitter.
  • Replace some water with coconut water for a tropical variation.
  • Add cucumber slices for a cooling summer version.
  • Add fresh berries for natural color and flavor.
  • Use honey instead of sugar if preferred.
  • Add crushed mint for a stronger herbal flavor.
