Ingredients

  • 1 cup grits
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 400 g shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

Cook the Grits

  • Bring water and milk to a boil in a saucepan. Add grits slowly while stirring. Cook on low heat until thick and creamy. Stir often to avoid lumps and ensure smooth texture.

Add Butter and Cheese

  • Add butter and cheddar cheese into cooked grits. Mix well until melted and creamy. Season with salt. Keep warm on low heat while preparing shrimp.

Prepare the Shrimp

  • Clean shrimp properly and pat them dry. Season with salt, black pepper, paprika, and chili flakes. This adds bold flavor and slight heat to the dish.

Cook the Shrimp

  • Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add garlic and cook until fragrant. Add shrimp and cook for 2–3 minutes per side until pink and juicy.

Add Lemon and Herbs

  • Squeeze lemon juice over cooked shrimp. Sprinkle chopped parsley. Mix gently for fresh flavor. This step adds brightness and balances the richness of the dish.

Assemble the Dish

  • Spoon creamy grits into serving bowls. Top with cooked shrimp evenly. Add extra sauce from pan for more flavor and moisture.

Serve Warm

  • Serve immediately while hot. Enjoy the creamy and spicy combination. It tastes best fresh and warm with soft texture.

Notes

  • Use chicken broth instead of water for richer grits
  • Add bacon for smoky flavor
  • Use cream instead of milk for extra richness
  • Add hot sauce for spicy taste
  • Use parmesan cheese for different flavor
